> Back to Harloop

Back to Harloop. This time we have traction.

So I can't remember the exact day I started Harloop with my partner Chinmay Pingale but this project has been truly enduring the test of time.

The Story So Far

2025-10-03

My final day working at Schwab as a Specialist Sofware Engineer. It was Harloop Full time now. I would consider it my first dive into the complete unknown. My stable income was reduced to 0 but at the same time it was a great feeling of relief.

Working at Schwab has its stresses as I was one of two engineers responsible for an app that facilitated millions of dollars to clients every quarter.

Me and Chinmay completely gave up on Harloop. The business was making money but we got crushed in terms of motivation. We were trying to sell a simple widget app at enterprise prices and it didn't feel right having to pitch the product in a customer call.

It was so hard to land new users but I think we gave up too early. We got a ton of signals to stop working on it and in hindsight maybe we should've kept going. The biggest issue is that our app was a tiny embeddable widget so I think it was hard even for me and Chinmay to stand 100% behind it. Harloop at this time was really missing a real value add that would actually convince people to pay more than 0 dollars to use it.

At this point Harloop had a bit of sunk cost fallacy since we spent so much time coding the actual product and not so much selling it. This was a lesson learned.

Harloop hiatus was over. We decided to try Harloop again. The entire time harloop was making us passive income and we figured we would give it another shot.

This was probably the TOUGHEST pivot for me. I just spent months building Cuelock for a measly 200 bucks. In my eyes we were giving up before giving Cuelock a real chance but maybe it was for the best. Another story retold of building a product nobody wants. Harloop was passivly doing better than Cuelock at all stages of Cuelock in terms of revenue and profit.

Closing Thoughts

Long post but things are looking much better for Harloop so I figured it was worth being documented as part of my story.

Are we running into the same issues in this round 2 bout with Harloop as with did before?

Yes.

Are we making bull-rush gun-ho decisions this time around?

No.
